What is choke cable?

A choke valve/cable is designed to restrict the flow of air in the carburettor of an engine. This helps enrich the fuel-air mixture, improving the ability to start an engine in low temperature conditions. Simply put, the choke is about making more fuel available for the engine to use.

How do you put a choke cable on a carburetor?

Insert the wire end into the hole on the choke lever then use a pair of needle-nose pliers to put two 90° bends in the wire on either side of the lever to hold it in place. Insert the cable sheath into the bracket on the carburetor then tighten the screw to hold it in place.

At 5°-10°C (41°-50°F), the choke plate should be fully open in about ten minutes. Check for bent choke linkage and a defective thermostat cap. And ensure the fast idle cam (screw) is properly set. So checked it out today and the choke works perfectly well, so now I’m suspecting and idle circuit running to rich.
