Can you go straight to gold DofE?
Once you are 16 you can do your Gold DofE programme. If you’ve jumped straight into your Gold DofE programme you’ll need to do a further six months either Volunteering or in whichever one of your Physical or Skills activities you spent more time on.

To get the most from your DofE programme, your volunteering should be more than babysitting your siblings, or helping your parents or carers with your usual chores! Remember, if you are a Young Carer, then your caring responsibilities can still be used for the Volunteering section.
How many hours of volunteering do you need for gold DofE?
This can be particularly good for the Volunteering section to allow participants to take on more interesting, challenging and responsible activities. In these cases, for example, a Gold programme lasting 12 or 18 months with a monthly activity of say six hours would be acceptable.
Can you do litter picking for DofE volunteering?
All volunteers must read this checklist ❏ Wear the protective gloves provided at all times. ❏ Always use litter pickers provided to pick up litter. ❏ Make sure you can see all of the items of litter you are picking up.
Can You fundraise for the DofE volunteering section?
This is not in keeping with the aim of the Volunteering section. Young people can of course fundraise for their own DofE group or fundraise to support themselves in going on their expedition, but cannot count this for their volunteering section.

Volunteering has been my favourite part of the DofE and has given me a purpose. You’ll really put your heart into volunteering through your DofE.
