What are two ways to name a line?
Line segments are commonly named in two ways:
- By the endpoints. In the figure above, the line segment would be called PQ because it links the two points P and Q. Recall that points are usually labelled with single upper-case (capital) letters.
- By a single letter. The segment above would be called simply “y”.
What is line segment AB called?
One and only one line-segment can be between two given points A and B. This line-segment is called AB. It may also be called BA. Line BA is the same as line AB.
Can you name a line AB and BA?
No, Ray AB and Ray BA are not same.
Does order matter when naming a line?
Order does not matter. A ray is a part of a line with one endpoint that extends forever in the direction opposite that endpoint. A ray is labeled by its endpoint and one other point on the line.
What are the symbols for AB and CD?
AB CD : The line AB is perpendicular to line CD: Parallel: EF GH : The line EF is parallel to line GH: Degrees: 360° 360 degrees (a full rotation!) Right Angle (90°) is 90° A right angle is 90 degrees: Line Segment “AB” AB : The line segment between A and B: Line “AB” The infinite line that includes A and B: Ray “AB”
What are the terms for lines and planes?
Line AB (written as ⃡ ) and points A and B are used here to define the terms below. • Plane – A plane has twodimensions. It is represented by a shape that looks like a floor or a wall, but it extends without end. Through any three points not on the same line, there is exactly one plane.
What are the defined terms of a line?
• Defined terms – In geometry, terms that can be described using knownwords such as pointor lineare called defined terms. • Line segment, Endpoints – The line segment AB, or segment AB, (written as ̅̅̅̅ ) consists of the endpoints A and B and all points on ⃡ that are betweenA and B. Note that ̅̅̅̅ can also be named ̅̅̅̅ .
